Artifact Story:

Being the Leader and Team Player: GPS Training and Geocaching*

In small groups, we were given the challenge to solve a puzzles in order to do a hunt for a geocache in the area using our GPS training. As a group, we would take times listening to each other’s ideas and then provide input from others in order to collectively solve the puzzles. If only one of us had an idea, we would follow through with that idea as a team despite some arguments since we knew that any idea is better than anything and to show respect to everyone’s opinion. When we could not solve a puzzle we would recheck our steps and our method of solving. If for some reason, one of us got lost we would have a meeting place but at all times we remained in a group.

*Geocaching: is the hunt for geocaches which are closed treasures that residents leave in an area with latitude and longitude coordinates which are entered into a geocache site where many geocachers go to begin geocaching.

Results

We completed many puzzles as group but was not successful in finding a geocache. Although, we did not find the geocache during the activity. Me and my group had a valuable experience of teamwork and the practice of using the GPS training that we attained before being given the Geocache challenge.

Reflection

As the team leader, the key to leadership is positivity. This quality is important because positivity initiates the diligence and good work. Especially, when I found that positivity inspires and encourages the cultivation of ideas. Also, respect, being open to criticism and people’s ideas is important. For instance, when working in a group I always show optimism and dedication to hard work in order for me and my group members to complete our geocache challenge while enjoying the learning experience. While as a team player, I believe it is important to cooperate with others. Teamwork is necessary for better performance and for good results to be produced. During my GPS training with my classmates, I ensure that I listened closely to my peers and work with their ideas by adding to the pool of ideas.

In my future workplace, I would use my teamwork skills as a collaborative team player and as a leader who encourages her colleages to work at their best as a group. I believe as a leader, one should always display initiative, respect and positivity in order to aspire others and collaborate with their team members. Also, a good team player positively collaborates with their peers. Leadership and teamwork skills are important in the workplace so that problems may be solved innovatively with confidence from a variety of a ideas.
