Abstract

One of the most predominant forms of social stratification that exists in Canada and around the world is gender inequality. This composition disseminates the social stratification of gender inequality in Canada through an anthropological lens. The transfer of domains of experience in Canada can influence the perceptions of gender resulting in gender inequality in society. That is to say, the transfer of domains of experience is the application of one’s knowledge from experience to another aspect of their life. This is displayed by the institutionalized inequality toward women through the example of the stereotypical assumption that women’s competency of driving is deemed inadequate compared to men. Presently, social constructions of men and women has presented social constraints on women and individuals of different gender identities. Further, societal expectations based on these social constructs has imposed pressure and a threat to one’s individuality to those who are different gender identities. Also, agents of socialization has caused the implications of gender discrimination in Canadian society. For instance, beauty ideals portrayed in marketing has produced a social hierarchy and bullying among young women. Gender inequality is a reoccurring issue of inequality that has imposed strict social standards on women and people of different gender identities.
