Patient Information and Medical Orders

During my co-op experience, I was given the task to use the database software system encompassing patient information. As a hospital unit clerk, I was responsible for stocking charts by printing order sheets or necessary forms from the database management system. Using the software system, I was able to check patient information when needed by a health care professional. Due to the fact I was a not a contract employee, I used the system to input medical orders such as booking tests or pharmacy orders. I was able to gain experience using a database management software during my high school co-op experience.

Results

As a student unit clerk, I was able to assist unit clerks and hospital staff in their rountine tasks and the operation of the hospital floor. My willingness to learn and work ethic allowed me to use the database software management in order to complete medical order such as pharmacy orders, book tests and search for patients in the system. Using the database software system, I helped people on the phone and in person at the desk and ensure medical orders were inputted.

Reflection

This was my first experience using a database software management to assist me in my tasks and help other staff in yhe workplace. I learned the importance of patient confidentiality, as I was responsible for handling patient information when stocking charts or checking patient information in the system. With my experience using a database software management system, allowed me to gain the understanding of the essentiality of accuracy in medical orders, due to the medical intention of patient care. Also, I was given the opportunity to learn about medical terminology such as Alb for Albumin and Cr for Creatinine.
